Salamander Heaters and Furnaces

In the early 1940s, W.L. Scheu of Scheu Manufacturing Company, a leading producer of temporary portable space heating equipment, invented the Salamander heater, to provide warmth, thereby allowing construction crews to work in inclement weather. With the introduction of the Salamander heater in the 1940s, sales spread across the nation, and by the 1950s, to Europe.

Salamander Heaters

Salamander heaters are any of a variety of portable forced-air or convection heaters often fueled by kerosene, propane or electricity. These heaters are used in ventilated areas for worksite comfort. Depending on style, they can be referred to as “torpedo furnaces“, “salamander furnaces”, or simply, “salamander”.

Salamander heaters are popular among construction workers and garage owners because they are able to heat large areas quickly, affordably and comfortably. It’s good to note that a salamander heater is great for outdoor events, construction sites, garages and winter games.
